What You need to start Classes at Rip it Up!

In order to give individualized attention and ample hands on time on the equipment, Class size will be limited to 8 handler/dog teams. Enrollment will be on a first come first served basis. Both classes require an enrollment form and Dog profile Form.

Still have questions? Please contact us anytime! I look forward to hearing from you.

The things you need to begin Agility classes are:

1
. Basic Pet Obedience. (Ex. a reliable recall (come), Sit, Down, Stay), Your dog needs to be able to walk well on leash and is mannerly around other dogs. I will not allow any dog aggression in any of my classes. It makes the other owners and their dogs uneasy and does not promote a good learning environment.  If your Dog is not comfortable in a class environment, Private lessons may be available. If you feel your dog knows basic obedience and wish to skip these lessons, let me know and we can set up an appointment for an evaluation.

2
. A flat, fitted buckle collar and a short leash. 4' to 6'. Choke chains or prong collars can hurt the dog in the case of leaping off an obstacle. Also there is a high probability that the dog will be mistakenly corrected. If they trip or stumble, it will confuse the dog, slowing the learning process
.

3
. Your dogs favorite treats and/or toy. Balls are not recommended because they are hard to control. Once they bounce, the dog goes into a chase state of mind,  then the dog forgets why it was rewarded to begin with.

4
. A clear fun state of mind! Agility is supposed to be fun! There is no better way to bond with your dog! Leave your stresses of the day at home. Any negativity or stress will travel down the leash and your dog will behave the same way. By the end of class, you'll be feeling much more relaxed and refreshed!

Things you will need to begin Obedience classes are:

1.  A 4 to 6 foot leash. I do not have a preference for collars for obedience class. I have had experience using flat buckle collars, Check Collars (choke chain) and Prong collars. Head halters also work well for a dog that lunges. All of these are good training devices when used correctly. If you are unsure which training collar to use, I can advise a training collar for you and show you the proper use. What ever you believe will work for your dog, I encourage you to use. EXCEPT for shock collars! This is a positive training class and I will not allow shocking or striking of the dogs.

2. Treats...Treats... Treats! Bite sized, easy to chew treats are recommended. Diced hotdog, cheese, whatever your dog LOVES!

3. Just like Agility you need a clear and fun state of mind! Leave your stresses of the day at home. Any negativity/stress will travel down the leash and your dog will feel like they have done something wrong and will shut down. Once that happens it is impossible to teach them, and you will get even more frustrated!
